The Hanley Road South – Phase 1 Design, started in April 2007, is an implementation of the recommended alternative for the South area of the Hanley Road Corridor Study. The specific project limits are south of Litzsinger to approximately Flora Avenue - a distance of one-half mile. Significant project elements include (but are not limited to):
- Widen Hanley Road from two travel lanes in each direction to three travel lanes in each direction.
- New MUTI! Read more here
- Realign Black Creek to accommodate new interchange.
- Replace Manchester Road bridge over Black Creek (this bridge is just west of the Hanley Road intersection).
- Reconstruct roadway drainage for the length of the project.
- Provide sidewalk and bicycle accomodations through the length of the project along Hanley Road and Manchester Road.
- See the project issues map for additional information.
Based upon the needs identified in the Hanley Road Corridor Study, the primary objective of the project is to improve regional mobility and local circulation. Added travel lanes and capacity improvements at Manchester Road alone will greatly improve the capacity through this portion of the corridor. Additional enhancements, including improved access control, will also improve capacity and safety throughout the project.
The recommendations and improvements being implemented are being developed in coordination with the adjacent municipalities, local and regional agencies, key stakeholders and the public so that the needs of those affected as well as the users of Hanley Road within and through the community are comprehensively coordinated and addressed in the most responsible manner possible.
